THE 5 EXPRESSIONS OF CHRIST (The Pastor))

The Five Expressions of Christ
Why the Ekklesia Still Needs the Fivefold Ministry

One of the great misunderstandings in the modern church is the belief that the fivefold ministries described in Ephesians 4:11 are simply leadership titles. They are much more than that:

Paul writes:

“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and some teachers … for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry; for the edifying of the Body of Christ.”

The fivefold ministry is not about hierarchy or position. It is about the continued expression of the ministry of Jesus through His body on the earth.

Jesus carried the fullness of all five of these expressions. When He ascended, He released these ministry graces into the church so the Ekklesia could continue His mission in the world.

In other words, the fivefold ministry represents five dimensions of the ministry of Christ flowing through His people. When these expressions are functioning together, the church begins to reflect the fullness of Christ.

This month, we continue to look at each of the 5-fold ministries individually …

THE PASTOR

Pastoral Protection … Shepherds, Nurtures, & Cares for God’s Flock

Pastoral ministry reflects the heart of Christ as the Good Shepherd. Pastors nurture, protect, and guide the people of God so they grow into spiritual health and maturity.

Shepherding involves more than teaching or organizing. It involves walking with people through real life. Pastors care for the wounded, strengthen the weak, and help believers remain connected to the body of Christ.

Without pastoral protection, people can easily become overlooked or spiritually isolated. With pastoral grace present, the church becomes a place of safety, belonging, and spiritual growth. Without it, the church suffers.

PASTORS DO NOT ADMINISTRATE THE AFFAIRS OF THE CHURCH!

Pastors help the church ask:

• Are the people healthy? Are their needs being met?
• Are we caring for the flock entrusted to us?
• Are believers growing in maturity and connection?

Pastoral ministry ensures that the church is not just growing larger, but growing stronger and healthier.

In next month’s entry, we will look at … THE TEACHER.
