THE 5 EXPRESSIONS OF CHRIST (The Evangelist)
The Five Expressions of Christ
… Why the Ekklesia Still Needs the Fivefold Ministry
One of the great misunderstandings in the modern church is the belief that the fivefold ministries described in Ephesians 4:11 are simply leadership titles. They are much more than that:
Paul writes:
“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and some teachers … for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry; for the edifying of the Body of Christ.”
The fivefold ministry is not about hierarchy or position. It is about the continued expression of the ministry of Jesus through His body on the earth.
Jesus carried the fullness of all five of these expressions. When He ascended, He released these ministry graces into the church so the Ekklesia could continue His mission in the world.
In other words, the fivefold ministry represents five dimensions of the ministry of Christ flowing through His people. When these expressions are functioning together, the church begins to reflect the fullness of Christ.
This month, we continue to look at each of the 5-fold ministries individually …
THE EVANGELIST
Evangelistic Enthusiasm … Reaches The Lost
Evangelists carry a burning passion for people who are far from God. They help the church remember that the gospel is meant to move outward, into the world.
Jesus Himself demonstrated this expression constantly. He sought the lost, restored the broken, and proclaimed the good news of The Kingdom everywhere He went.
Evangelistic ministry ignites urgency for the harvest. It reminds the church that the mission is not simply to gather believers, but to bring people into reconciliation with God.
Where evangelistic grace is present, faith rises and boldness increases. The church begins to expect salvation, transformation, and new life.
Evangelists help the church ask:
• Who are we reaching?
• Are we bringing the gospel beyond our walls?
• Are we creating space for people to encounter Christ?
Evangelistic enthusiasm keeps the church focused on the harvest!
In next month’s entry, we will look at … THE PASTOR.
