THE 5 EXPRESSIONS OF CHRIST (The Prophet)

The Five Expressions of Christ
… Why the Ekklesia Still Needs the Fivefold Ministry

One of the great misunderstandings in the modern church is the belief that the fivefold ministries described in Ephesians 4:11 are simply leadership titles. They are much more than that:

The Apostle Paul writes:
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and some teachers … for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry; for the edifying of the Body of Christ.

The fivefold ministry is not about hierarchy or position. It is about the continued expression of the ministry of Jesus through His body on the earth.

Jesus carried the fullness of all five of these expressions. When He ascended, He released these ministry graces into the church so the Ekklesia could continue His mission in the world. In other words, the fivefold ministry represents five dimensions of the ministry of Christ flowing through His people. When these expressions are functioning together, the church begins to reflect the fullness of Christ.

This month, we continue to look at each of the 5-fold ministries individually … THE PROPHET.

Prophetic Perception … Hears God’s Voice & Sees God’s Hand

Prophetic ministry gives the church spiritual sensitivity and discernment. Prophets help the people of God hear what the Spirit is saying, see what God is doing, and remain aligned with the His heart
.
In Scripture, prophets often functioned as watchmen. They discerned the times and seasons, called God’s people back to covenant faithfulness, and brought clarity in moments of confusion or drift. Prophetic voices awaken the church to the reality that God is actively speaking and moving.
WITHOUT prophetic perception, churches can easily become mechanical and program-driven. WITH prophetic grace operating, the church becomes aware of the presence and direction of the Holy Spirit.

Prophets help the church ask:

• What is God saying right now?
• Where is God moving right now?
• Are we aligned with His heart?
• Are we moving with the Spirit or simply repeating patterns?

Prophetic ministry keeps the church spiritually alive and responsive to God.
In next month’s entry, we will look at … THE EVANGELIST
